Since we sold our petroleum refining assets in 2005 and the paving and construction business in 2006, we have taken serious steps to refocus our enterprise within a very difficult economic environment, redesigning our business models to address the realities of the global marketplace and acquiring businesses in growth markets to enhance our specialty chemicals offerings.

Our objective has been to create a more focused company built around a strong core of specialty chemicals businesses that better position us to generate predictable, consistent earnings and strong cash flows.

• Ashland Aqualon Functional Ingredients, a global provider of specialty additives and functional ingredients derived from renewable resources, serving the coatings and construction, energy, personal care, pharmaceuticals, food and other industries;
• Ashland Hercules Water Technologies, a leading specialty chemicals supplier to the pulp and paper, industrial and institutional, mining and municipal industries;
• Ashland Performance Materials, a global producer of specialty resins, adhesives and metal casting consumables serving the construction, transportation, infrastructure, packaging and converting, and energy markets;
• Ashland Consumer Markets, a leading innovator and supplier of high-performance lubricants, automotive chemicals and appearance products, including those marketed under the Valvoline® and Eagle One® brands, and operator and franchiser of Valvoline Instant Oil Change® centers; and
• Ashland Distribution, a leading provider of chemicals, plastics, composite materials and environmental services in North America and plastics in Europe.
