Ashland Inc.'s manufacturing facility in Texas City recognized among best in state for safety by Texas Chemical Council and Association of Chemical Industry of Texas

June 7, 2013

TEXAS CITY, Texas - Ashland Inc. (NYSE: ASH) today announced that its manufacturing facility in Texas City has received a "Best in Texas" safety award from the Texas Chemical Council and Association of Chemical Industry of Texas (TCC/ACIT). The annual award, which is the trade associations' highest honor, recognizes outstanding safety performance for facilities in four size categories. Ashland's Texas City facility was named as the 2012 winner in the category for 61-200 employees.

A panel of industry peers reviewed safety data and safety programs at 22 member plants. Among the criteria used in judging are performance and leadership in employee and contractor safety programs, as well as participation in TCC activities and annual training seminars.

"Safety is our top priority, and it's an honor to be recognized by our peers for the performance of our employees, contractors and our overall operations," said Jay Bizarro, director of operations for Ashland Specialty Ingredients and site general manager in Texas City. "We aim for continuous improvement in all of our operations, including our approach to safety training and education. Our first concern every day is the safety of our employees, contractors and the community around us."

In addition to the "Best in Texas" award, TCC/ACIT also honored Ashland's Texas City site for having no recordable injuries involving employees or contractors in 2012.

"The responsibility for safety is shared by each and every Ashland employee and this award serves to confirm our continuous efforts towards zero incidents," said Steve Post, Ashland's vice president of operations and environmental, health and safety. "Making safety a way of life is a core priority, a central value for Ashland and a never ending process that we are fully committed to."
